About the artist

She was almost 60 years old before she picked up a pencil and attempted to draw anything. Sandra always had an innovative mind, cooking exotic dishes, entertaining guests with a flourish. The artist spirit was already inside her when she was handed her first piece of charcoal and encouraged to “just try it”. She developed a passion for portraiture and landscapes as she watered her seeds with knowledge. As she gained confidence, she grew curious about color and how she could use pastels and acrylic to express her creativity .

As Sandra fostered her craft, she began developing a contemporary abstract series titled “The Community Garden”, inspired by her love for urban gardens, and the joyful color it brings to the community. As a New Yorker she is heartened by neighbors stewarding a green space providing a natural escape for the community. Sandra has found a sense of growth and enthusiasm from neighbors working together. In her paintings, she uses vibrant luscious color to convey abstract wildflowers, veggies, foot paths, stone walks, broken fences, and trees in a very bright and happy way.

Sandra has studied at The Art Students League, Salmagundi Galleries, Monmouth County Arts Alliance. Looking at the world now through artists' eyes, Sandra is inspired by nature’s beauty and the human spirit..

Sandra has exhibited at Kente Royal Gallery, Art On The Ave Galleries, Montclair Art Museum.
