I started this type of work, using shoe inserts around 2017-18, and the first time around, being so new to mixed-media art and art in general, I used the entire insert, torn a tad, but not something as semi-ripped up as this. It was a revelation as was the ripping away layers of the shoe inserts, giving them more texture, and dipping them in acrylic mixed in different amounts of water using same and similar colors.
