Make W.A.A.V.E.S. August will be exploring Super Heroes created by the workshop participants. Workshops facilitated by Yonkers first Poet Laureate and guest readers/facilitators Katori Walker/Evan Bishop and Andrea Wolper will give participants an opportunity to ’Take an Idea And Go Creative”( this is a reference to Ellen Goldsmith who created this successful concept for the NYC public schools) We will use poetry to foster creative ideas. Various forms of poetry and story telling ( narrative poetry) will tell the Super Hero beginnings and adventures. Poetry will combine with art to create comic book adventures and covers that will be part of the Fall 2024 2nd Yonkers Comicon created by Evan Bishop that will be held at the Ri|/
No-cost summer workshops at the Riverfront library will invite and teach writers how to create accessories and add vision….for their written superhero. Writers/poets/storytellers and their creative comicon heroes will be invited to talk about and perform the words of their creations. The August workshops will give writers an opportunity to strengthen and hone their oral skills for public performances and readings. Performing in public ‘jitters’ will be addressed.
