Graffiti Art or Graffiti Vandalism - Where is it today? Every major municipality is host to various kinds of graffiti cultures. The most profound graffiti culture is called Hip-Hop Graffiti. During the late 1960's and early 1970's, the Hip-Hop Movement influenced the traditional tagging culture. This trend converted traditional graffiti writers' tags into new identities. A conversion that took the writer's chosen name to greater heights through the use of preferred use of formats, as well as selected use of styles. It is these new graffiti identities that cause the general public to question, is graffiti vandalism or art? On June 23, 2014, our forum, will revive this age-old question, and discuss where is the state of graffiti today. The audience will view three Yonkers-based graffiti writers; their works and experiences. The audience will also participate in a forum. The forum will include two known graffiti enthusiasts, Ms Laura Alvarez and Ken Davis. Ms. Alvarez, freelance illustrator, graphic designer and educator will debate its artistic intent. Mr. Davis, a graffiti and gang specialist, will debate its destructive intent.
