Multimedia artist Chris Chalfant will guide you through a series of drawings while performing improvisational jazz. She will discuss her process and how one may go about using improvisation to inform their creative process. Q and A to follow. This is for ages 18 and up. CHRIS CHALFANT is a multimedia artist and educator living in the New York area. At an early age Chalfant won a local award for line drawing which was shown in a city-wide art show. She co-curated the “Come-and-Do-it-to-it” Interactive art exhibition with the Akron Art Institute (now Museum) while in High School. Chalfant received her degrees in music and spent much of her early career in Cambridge working with poets, dancers and painters. Chalfant created dozens of performance art pieces that were done in Cambridge, New York and on radio. She produced “Festival of Women Improvisors-Boston” and “American Women Composers Marathon.” Chalfant worked with Joan LaBarbara in a residency at Atlantic Center just before moving to New York where she went on to have a music career in the avant-jazz scene. Currently Chalfant devotes much of her time to composing music, photography, singing with a gospel choir and playing with her cat Thelma.
