On February 16, Wednesday at 1:00. Mayor Spano is announcing that Golda Solomon, Poet-In-Residence and Board member of the Blue Door Art Center will be awarded Poet Laureate of the City of Yonkers. The ceremony will take place in front of City Hall steps near the Unity Fountain.
Golda Solomon, Adjunct Associate Professor CITH Borough of Manhattan Community College, poet-in-residence Blue Door Art Center and spoken word performer, is the creator of Po’Jazz (Poetry in Partnership with Jazz) and founding member of The Jazz & Poetry Choir Collective. Golda created and hosts ArtSpeak/From Page To Performance at BDAC, ekphrastic writing workshops. Grants from Poets & Writers, the NEA Yonkers Initiative help with her commitment to effecting change in Yonkers through the arts. Solomon’s poetry collections include: Flatbush Cowgirl and Medicine Woman of Jazz and cds, Po’Jazz:Takin’ It To the Hollow, First Sets, Jazz Riffs and We Are Here (J&PCC). Golda creates multimedia collages. Snippets of her poetry make their way into each piece. Golda Solomon collaborates with the Science Barge, YWCA Yonkers and other neighboring non-profits. She is a Yonkers resident. She is currently at work on her memoir.
