Satish Joshi, a contemporary artist living in Yonkers, New York, works in a wide variety of media - mixed media paintings, monotype prints, and stone and metal sculpture. He embraces the use of textured mixed-media surfaces on his paintings, an approach through which he create an imaginary 3D world on two-dimensional planes. This newest series of paintings, Urbanlights, blends color and texture into evocative works in which light emanates within and throughout his urban citscapes. “The human cosmos is infused with our own Urbanlights; textures and forms resonate around us in brick, steel, mortar and glass. We view our cosmos with the lights radiating from within as windows illuminate; external light pours down from the true cosmos and changes shapes, shadows, dimensions.”
Urbanlights, is an astounding series of work which speaks to both Satish’s early formative years in India and his life as an professional artist in New York. Satish successfully integrates the use of the traditional Eastern colors that informed his childhood with a Western abstract vocabulary.

Satish was a member of Riverdale Country School’s Visual Arts Department for 37 years; he is still renowned as a legendary shaper of young artists. He is currently Artist-in-Residence at School of the Holy Child in Rye.
