Join Kizuna Daiko for the Sunday Happening, Drums Along the Hudson.
Kizuna Daiko, which was formed in the summer of 2015, is a Japanese Taiko team that plays both contemporary Japanese Taiko music and the Osuwa Daiko repertoire developed by Daihachi Oguchi, the founder of Osuwa Daiko and the recognized founder of the world-wide Taiko ensemble movement. Grand Master Oguchi, in internationally-known jazz drummer, came across some temple manuscripts in the early 1950s that he was told were probably Taiko scores. This piqued his curiosity and shaped the rest of his life, during which he worked to spread the joy of Taiko to as many people as he possibly could. From this humble beginning in Japan, Taiko ensemble drumming has spread to scores of countries on every continent in the world.
The goal of Kizuna Daiko (Chika Croteau, Yoko Ibanez, Akiyo Furukawa-Lieberson, Akiko Uchiyama-Wolham, and Les Von Losberg) is Grand Master Oguchi’s goal: to experience and spread the joy of Taiko to as many people as we possibly can.
