Madeline Wilson

I grew up as a military brat in the 1960s and 70s, moving often, until, by the age of fourteen I had attended more than 15 schools, and lived in almost as many houses. I had to make friends fast so I learned early to find a common thread with other kids; later this translated into the visual connections made through photography.

Dream House is a re-creation of those pivotal moments: our house as it looked when we arrived: empty, full of possibility, and as we left, resonating with the spirit of our family. How did our family’s presence change the space?

City Island is an exploration of a unique place, a way of standing still and attending to the color, the quiet, the light which describes the place. I have recently moved to the island, and I again find myself in the position of “the new kid”. The images are familiar to me as a way of documenting place and they help to connect me to my surroundings.

Each photograph is printed in editions of 20, at 12 X 19”, on an Epson Photo 4000 ink jet printer.
